Luigi is working on his DC2N and has now a working prototype ready. You can get all the info (schematics PCB layouts, firmware) on this project on Luigi's homepage. DC2N stands for Digital C2N and it's basically intended to be a compact replacement to the tape unit used with Commodore home computers (C64, C16, VIC 20)
